Environmental Law and Management Initiative(ELMI) is an advocacy project of the Environmental Law and Management Association, Nigeria. The project aims to provide a forum for a unified approach, and proactive initiatives or other action to protect the environment. It works in the specific areas of:
- Public interest law
- Scientific environmental analysis/assessment
- Climate change
- Research, education and publications
- Legal aid; and
- general advocacy.
The ELMI mission is pursued through various approaches but with increased focus on the following:
· increasing public participation and the public's access to information in environmental matters,
· drafting/producing scientific and legislative work, environmental studies, international agreements,
· legal advising and court representation in environmental matters,
· developing environmental NGO network and identity,
· capacity building, organizational and professional development of environmental NGO's, capacity building, organizational and professional development of environmental NGO's,
· engaging in formal educational activities including university teaching, student programs and internships,
· Business consulting directed at educating businesses to their legal responsibility vis-à-vis environmental regulation,
· climate change solutions.
